Bluebox Optics Fibre Coupled LED Module

BBO Fibre Coupled LED Module

With a wide range of individual wavelengths as well as broadband white light options, Bluebox Optics Ltd. introduce our fibre coupled LED modules.

Our custom designed internal optics, greatly reduce the unwanted high intensity ring, seen at the output of optical fibres where direct LED – fibre coupling is used. Integrated thermal management with passive cooling keeps the LED within the specified operating range and provides a stable operation.

The SMA 905 output connector allows for connection to any optical fibre terminated with a SMA 905 connector following the EN61754-22:2005 standard.

Module information and operating characteristics are stored onboard and are accessible externally via the provided cable.

BBO Fibre Coupled LED Module

Fiber-coupled LED modules indeed find applications across various domains in photonics, including biophotonics/life science, microscopy, and laboratory testing and spectroscopy. Examples of where the BBO Fiber-coupled LED modules could be used are as follows:

1. Biophotonics / Life Science:
Phototherapy: In treatments like photodynamic therapy, fiber-coupled LEDs are used to deliver specific wavelengths of light to activate photosensitive drugs within the body.
Biosensors: LEDs are used in biosensors for detecting and analyzing biological materials. Fiber coupling allows for precise light delivery and collection, enhancing the sensitivity of these devices.

2. Microscopy – Fluorescence (using Fluorophores) and General Illumination:
Fluorescence Microscopy: Fiber-coupled LEDs provide a stable and controllable light source, which is critical for fluorescence microscopy. They offer specific wavelengths needed to excite various fluorophores used in biological and chemical imaging.
– General Illumination: In microscopy, uniform and directed illumination is crucial. Fiber-coupled LEDs can be used to deliver light precisely where it is needed, enhancing image quality and reducing interference.

3. Laboratory Testing and Spectroscopy:
Spectroscopy: Fiber-coupled LEDs are advantageous in spectroscopy for their ability to deliver light at specific wavelengths. This is crucial for techniques like absorption, fluorescence, or Raman spectroscopy.
Analytical Instruments: In instruments used for chemical analysis, fiber-coupled LEDs provide a stable, controllable light source that can be tuned to specific wavelengths, improving the accuracy and reliability of measurements.

In each of these applications, the key advantages of fiber-coupled LED modules are their ability to deliver light precisely where it is needed, the flexibility in terms of wavelength selection, and the stability and control they offer over the light intensity. These attributes make them versatile and valuable across a range of scientific and medical applications.

It can also be used for Optogenetics, Photocatalysis and Metrology
